Oscar Qualifying Short Film Festival in Germany
International short film festival in Germany presenting competitive sections for narrative and animated shorts. Qualifying winners become eligible for Academy Awards, BAFTA, and European Film Awards consideration.
Premiere Requirements:
National Premiere
- Eligible submissions are restricted to short films completed one year.
- International Competition accepts works of all genres not exceeding 35 minutes (longer durations admissible only in rare exceptional cases by selection committee), requiring German festival premiere (no prior screenings at any German festival) and production or co-production seat not in Germany (except co-productions)
- Admitted screening formats: 35 mm, 16 mm, Super 8, DCP.
- German Competition accepts works up to 45 minutes, with no festival premiere required, for productions seated in Germany.
NRW Competition accepts works up to 45 minutes, with no festival premiere required, for productions or co-productions seated in NRW (submitted via German Competition form, noting NRW details). - Children's and youth films are previewed from eligible International or German submissions (no festival premiere required).
- Submissions permitted to one competition only; double entries rejected. Once confirmed in writing, submissions cannot be withdrawn.
